TKAM poem - Mrs Dubose

I made this poem through analysis of Dubose's character and her incident with Jem.

Dubose Dubose so cynical,
Nigger-lover what's wrong with so?
Teasing taunting like a devil,
Had to bring yourself some trouble.

Criticizing all the Finches,
Trouble ends up on poor camellias.
Torturing Jem at your deathbed,
Never listening to the stories he said.

Dubose Dubose brave but dying,
Beholden to nothing and nobody.
Is your pain and effort worth,
When poor Jem doesn't understand so.

Multiple Intelligence Test

http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/results/results_action.cfm

I feel that the Multiple Intelligence test was fairly accurate. The results are based on 40 different questions, which based on a scale, helps one to find out what one is better at, and therefore apply it to learning. Nonetheless, I feel that it is not extremely accurate as there is only a small number of questions, which might not be able to very accurately find out one's learning style. My highest of the multiple intelligence is logical, second highest being interpersonal, intrapersonal, and musical, with equally parred scores. I also find that the way of finding out the musical score is slightly inaccurate. I feel that one does not need to learn a musical instrument to get a high score, but yet it quite strongly affects the results.

CNY Celebration

Today, my school had a Chinese New Year celebration. It felt much better than the previous celebration in the past few years. Still, the performances were quite expected and many were not paying attention. I find the most interesting part is the Chinese orchestra performance. The music played were beautiful, but at occasions, were painful to the ears.

After the celebrations, we went on to revisit our ex-teachers in our primary school, Nanyang. We had a good time there, reuniting with our ex-classmates and teachers. Looking at our juniors, it seems impossible to think that they are SO short, and yet we were once them.

Leaving the school, its again back to waiting for Chinese New Year's arrival. Happy CNY :)

The coming of a new year

As always, time flies, and it's hard to imagine that it is already 6 weeks into school.Even more surprising,it's only 3 days left to Chinese New Year!

During these few days, our family has been busily preparing for the upcoming event.First, like every other family, we started packing the house, cleaning every single corner possible. Then,we unpacked our new year decorations, decorating every room of the house.Eventually,we slowly feel the new year ambiance in the house.

Still, the new year holidays won't be all play but no work. This weekend,I received 'barrage' from my subject teachers. This could be finished early, but the worst thing is that we have to study for the History test...

Nonetheless, this new year,I would try to make the most out of it and have some quality time with my family and relatives.

Epic poem

Recently, as I was browsing through To Kill A Mockingbird on SparkNotes, I came across this sublime yet interesting poem called Dante's Inferno, in a genre 'epic poems'. This long narrative poem is about a poet Dante, describing the nine circles of hell, as follows:
Limbo - Here resides the unbaptized and virtuous pagans, who though are not sinful, did not accept Christ.
Lust - Lustful souls are blown about to and fro by the terrible winds of a violent storm, without hope of rest. This symbolizes the power of lust to blow one about needlessly and aimlessly.
Gluttony - Gluttons were forced to lie in a vile slush representing the trash they made of their lives.
Greed - Those whose attitude toward material goods deviated from the desired mean are punished in this circle, including the avaricious and prodigal.
Anger - In the swamp-like water of the river Styx, the wrathful fight each other on the surface, and the sullen lie gurgling beneath the water.
Heresy - Here, heretics are punished in flaming tombs.
Violence - Three rings where sinners where punished for violence against self, others and god.
Fraud - The fraudulent—those guilty of deliberate, knowing evil—are located in a circle named Malebolge, divided into ten bolgie, or ditches of stone, with bridges spanning the ditches.
Treachery - Sinners here are immersed in ice up to their faces. Condemned in the center is the one who committed the ultimate sin, personal treachery against god, Lucifer(Satan)

After reading short excerpts on this, I find that this divine comedy is entertaining as it takes us into hell from the experience of a poet.

Unforeseen consequences

Well, there is now something to be proud of in this year, and just like the first post of the blog, it is something unexpected. Yes, it was the second test of the year, a Chinese test. It was like any usual graded comprehension, except it requires more in-depth analysis and more time-consuming. Just nearing the end of the test, I realized I still had a really LONG question left, worth 6 marks of 40. I had no choice but to rush through it... The next week during Chinese lesson, I prepared for the dreadful period of the release of results, expecting my test paper to be horribly vandalized with red markings. Surprisingly, I scored 34/40, which is 85%. Eventually, this helps me mend my disappointment of my recent Maths test.

Another unexpected thing happened recently, regarding my classmate Graham's absence these few days. We soon discovered that it was due to the death of his grandfather, many know him as the richest man in Singapore. The class felt really sorry for his family and decided to write him a card, hoping to help him pass through this harsh period of reality easier.
